Lagos state govt to crush over 4000 impounded motorcycles

Speaking with journalists at the Olusosun refuse dump site in Ojota, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni on Monday, said the government will start crushing and recycling over 4,000 impounded commercial motorcycles, (aka Okada) in line with the provisions of the State Traffic Law of 2012. Owoseni said the recent restriction on Okadas was due to the government’s resolve to fight security concerns posed by criminal operators, adding that criminals habitually use okada to perpetrate crime and easily get away from the scene of the crime.  He said: “It would not be one off. So far, we have impounded about 500 motorcycles since we started our renewed efforts and we now have a total of about 4,000 bikes ready to be crushed. Man collapses after caning for breaking Islamic law in Indonesia

A 27-year-old Indonesian man collapsed while being publicly caned for standing with a woman who is not his wife in contravention of strict Islamic laws. Herizal bin Yunus, who was one of eight people publicly punished on Monday for breaking the province's Islamic regulations, fainted after being caned eight times in front of a crowd in Aceh. Officials carried him off stage after he collapsed during the punishment outside a mosque in the provincial capital Banda Aceh. But after he was examined by a doctor, the officials were told he was in good health, and he was taken back up on stage to be flogged another 14 times. Herizal had been sentenced to be caned a total of 22 times for breaking the Islamic laws that forbid people in Aceh from spending time with members of the opposite sex who are not their husband or wife.

Police arrest woman for aborting her 6-month-old baby

A 22-year-old Malawian woman from Mbawela village in Thyolo, has been arrested for aborting her 6-month-old baby and burying it at her place of work. The suspect identified as Fyness Maseya reportedly committed the act on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Confirming the horrendous act to Nyasa Time,  Kanengo Police PRO, Salome Chibwana said: 'The suspect Fyness Maseya, a guard at Mtupanyama Holdings, was six months pregnant and she decided to have an abortion. 'After successfully committing the act at her house in Ngomani, she put the baby in a black plastic bag and buried it at her workplace in area 28,' she said. Upon noticing that she was no longer pregnant, her friends started asking questions and that was when it was revealed that she aborted and buried the baby at her workplace. The matter was reported to her boss who on Tuesday, February 21, 2017,  alerted the police who went and exhumed the body together with a medical officer from area 25 health center. The accused woman

FG reviews Visa processing for Business Travellers, Tourists to Nigeria

The Federal Government has reviewed the visa processes for foreigners who wish to visit Nigeria for business and tourism purposes, with a view to removing bureaucratic bottleneck and encouraging business travellers and tourists, thus giving a boost to the economy. In a statement issued in Lagos today, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the measures were part of the action plan for the ease of doing business as well as efforts to boost tourism, within the overall context of the Administration's economic diversification agenda. ''The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reviewed the requirements for Nigerian visas to make them more customer friendly, and details of this review are available on the NIS official website,  www.immigration.gov.n g. A family of seven returning from church escaped death after a Nigerian Army truck rammed into their car  on Saturday  night in Calabar, Cross River State . According to one of the survivors, they were returning from a church service at Word Alive Church located at Anating by Atu street when their vehicle, a white coloured 2008 model Lexux RX33O SUV was hit by the green Toyota Hilux truck with license registration “ARMY 933” and somersaulted. There were 5 adults and two children in the vehicle at the time of the accident with all escaping unhurt or with minor injuries. Eyewitnesses say the passengers were removed by sympathizers with a few who sustained minor injuries taken to an undisclosed clinic for treatment. It is unclear if the soldier was hurt, as eyewitness say he fled the scene immediately with allegations he was on high speed at the point of collusion.

Pastor Sentenced To 20 Years In Jail For Defiling A 13-Year-Old Girl

A Ghanaian pastor from Domeabra in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Vincent Kete, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl. 3News reports that Pastor Kete pleaded guilty to defiling the daughter of his friend of 25 years. At a recent court hearing, prosecutor Kofi Atimbiri said the accused called the victim to his room on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. The accused and the victim’s father, were friends who lived in a single room in a mission house of their church. The pastor told an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Magistrate Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku that his action was the work of the devil and does not know what came over him. After listening to his plea, the court sentenced Pastor Vincent Kete to 20 years in prison with hard labour.

The teenager thief whose hand was chopped off in Sapele, Delta State, for attempted phone theft apparently didn't learn a lesson as he went stealing again last week. According to Sapele Oghenek Facebook page, he was caught and beaten to a pulp. Last April, the teenager slipped his hand through the open window of a house and tried to grab a phone lying there but luck ran out on him when the homeowner picked up a cutlass and chopped off his hand.  See previous post  here . Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe has revealed that in 2016, 109.5 million of condoms were used more than the 80 million used in 2015. According to the Ministry, 105 million male and 4.5 female condoms were distributed in 2016, with the female condom uptake remaining low. In the report, it was stated that the use of condoms as a safe sex practice has helped the country lower the number of new HIV Infections. With Zimbabwe ranked as the 10th highest in condom use, nearly 1.5 million are living with HIV in a country of 13 million people.

Covenant Dako, a security guard with a restaurant in FESTAC Town, Lagos State, escaped death by a whisker after he was attacked by an angry mob for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl. The Kogi State indigene would have been lynched, but for the intervention of the policemen who responded to a distress call from the management of the restaurant. He was subsequently rescued and taken into custody. . Dako had lured the victim with N50 and had rounds of sex with her in the restaurant’s generator house on Friday, February 3. He allegedly took the victim again on February 6, and was having sex with her when he was sighted by a passerby who alerted residents. . He was beaten to a pulp before the police intervened. Lagos Appoves New LAGBUS Fares, Unveils New Price List

Passengers using the LAGBUS and Bus Rapid Transit buses in Lagos will pay more from March 1, following the Lagos State Government’s approval of upward review in their fares. Thousands of Lagos residents queue up daily to make use of the buses to enjoy lower fares and use the BRT to beat gridlock in the city due to their use of dedicated lanes. The Lagos State Government said on Monday that it had approved fare increase ranging from 20 per cent to 50 per cent on different routes plied by the buses. The Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Mr Abiodun Dabiri, told newsmen in Alausa that the new fare structure for regulated bus operators in the state would take effect from March 1. He said that though the government was mindful of the current financial difficulties residents were going through, it approved the fare increase to save the bus schemes from collapse. Dabiri said what the bus operators spent on fuel had gone up 71 per cent, oil by 64 per cent and tyre

WTF? Mortuary attendants storm cemetery during funeral & seize corpse over debt (photos/video)

 On Saturday, February 11, 2017, there was a commotion at the Tema Community 9 Cemetery, when a Mortuary attendant with Tema General Hospital stormed the burial ground to seize a dead body over an amount of GH¢40 (N3K) balance for the services he rendered. According to some eyewitnesses, while the body was being interred, the enraged mortuary attendant in the company of a colleague, seized the coffin, opened it, picked out the dressed corpse and started heading back to the mortuary. According to him, the family of the deceased failed to pay the full amount and while he was busily preparing other bodies for burial, they sneaked the corpse out of the mortuary, headed straight to the cemetery to bury and was ready to proceed to perform the funeral. The funeral later continued following the intervention of some elders and friends of the deceased.  Watch video at the link below:
