No fewer than 83 Nigerians are expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday (today) following their deportation from the United Kingdom. The PUNCH gathered that among those to be deported were residents whose documents had expired and prisoners whose terms of imprisonment were nearing completion. The spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, South-West Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the deportees were expected to be in the country at 5am. He explained that they would arrive through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, adding that officials of the agency and other government workers were expected to receive them. Farinloye said the prisoners would complete their jail terms in Nigeria. He said, “We were informed that 83 Nigerians would be deported from the United Kingdom on Wednesday morning. Some of the people affected are those who haven’t completed their prison sentences. They would be taken to Nigerian prisons to complete their terms. Although we canno

The Minority Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Senate and former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has said that about 20 senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) are planning to defect to the PDP once peace returns to the party. Akpabio, who stated this  on Thursday , at the opening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and expanded caucus of the PDP, held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, said that despite some defections that hit the party recently, PDP senators in the National Assembly are still intact and very supportive of the party. A woman whose name was given as Sonu Gupta, 26, was captured by a CCTV camera throwing her 3-year-old son down the stairs after having an argument with her in-laws in her home in southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur area, India, on January 24. It was reported that her in-laws found out that the woman and her husband started having problems in their marriage five years after getting married and were addressing this issue. This led to an argument which escalated and the woman, in anger, flung clothes from the bed to the floor then picked her child and stormed out. Moments later she's seen opening a gate and throwing him down the stairs. Another woman comes moments later, pushes the mother out of the way and runs to rescue the child. Earlier today, LIB exclusively reported the arrest of Harrysong by his estranged label, Five Star Music. He was held at the the Onikan command zone of the state police command. Now we can confirm that he has been released. Details of his condition of release is yet to be made public. Harrysong and his team are currently preparing a statement to address the issue.

A senator representing Ondo South senatorial district, Yele Omogunwa has called for the legalisation of corruption in Nigeria. The senator argued that with the legalisation, corrupt politicians and public officials will have no reason to hide their loot abroad. Omogunwa said legalising corruption is a good way of cubing it since it has eaten deep into the fabrics of the nation. A video showing the moment an elderly woman was brutally beaten and stoned by youths of the Apostolic Gospel Church on accusation of witchcraft has emerged. According to the story told by a Facebook user, Sam Itauma, the church members claim that while they were having their youth vigil a bird fell into the Apostolic Gospel Church then turned into this old woman. In the video which is painful to watch, the woman is surrounded by church members who scream at her and call her a witch while whipping her. One of them can be heard asking her, "What did you come here to do? Who sent you here?" As the woman tried to escape, she was stopped by the congregation. At some point they began to rebuke her and started chanting in unison, calling down the fire of the holyghost to burn her. Two Ghanaians have been confirmed dead after a tyre they were fixing exploded at Hwidiem in the Asante Akyem North District of Ashanti Region on Tuesday. The deceased persons, a steel welder and a tricycle rider died on the spot. While two other persons who were standing close-by the scene of the accident also suffered injuries from the explosion. According to the Agogo Police, the welder with the assistance of the motorbike rider ignored the safety precaution of deflating the tyre before working on it. Few minutes later, the tyre exploded and chopped off the head of the steel welder and also mutilated that of the motorbike rider beyond recognition. The two other persons at the scene of the accident, a 14-year-old boy, and a 30-year old man are currently responding to treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital. The bodies of the two have been deposited at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital morgue. Source: 3news

A Ugandan nurse who uttered false HIV results has been found guilty and sentenced to a 12-month jail term if she fails to pay a Shs2 million fine. Entebbe Chief Magistrates Court heard that on August 24, 2015, Ms Samali Mukooda, a nurse at JBK Medical Clinic in Kawuku, Wakiso District, carried out an HIV test on a one Don Byakatonda who tested positive for HIV. However, Byakatonda, requested Mukooda to make for him a medical document showing that that he was HIV negative which he could present to his wife. Court that was presided over by Ms Mary Kaitesi  heard that Byakatonda, a former employee of the Aids Research Centre in Kampala had carried out an HIV test at Ebenezer Clinic Laboratory in Kampala on March 3, 2015 where he found out that he was carrying the virus that causes Aids. In her defence, however, Mukooda who admitted to altering the results said Byakatonda pulled out a pistol and threated to shoot her if she defied his olders.  source :daily monitor

Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting at Apo, Abuja, on sentenced a police officer, Olotu Owoicho, to 12 years imprisonment for causing the death of one Mrs. Doris Nonye Okere. The deceased Mrs Doris Nonye Okere, who was a cashier with the then Bank PHB at Wuse Zone 1 branch, lost her life on January 31, 2011 when the convict of Squadron 44 and chief security officer in charge of all security operatives at Zenith Bank, Mpape, opened fire on a taxi conveying the deceased with her barely 11-month old son to work. Owoicho was said to have pulled the trigger when the taxi driver allegedly ignored his warning not to make a u-turn in front of the bank. Bullets from his gun instantly killed late Doris, forcing sympathisers to set the bank ablaze. Owoicho, father of four, was subsequently arraigned on 28 June, 2011, on a two-count charge of culpable homicide punishable with death and also causing grievous harm by reckless use of firm arm.
