A man accused of attempting a robbery was stuck in a chimney at a youth centre in Zimbabwe for two days, before being rescued by a fire brigade crew and taken away by police. Andrea Zunga, 33, looked like a zombie from a movie when he emerged from the chimney.  According to report by Zimbabwean journalist Raisedon Baya, Zunga's accomplices who are still at large, managed to get in and out through one of the chimneys and got way with two computers, a laptop and a jacket but he got stuck in the other chimney which is blocked at the bottom. The accomplices on realising that Zunga was stuck in the chimney fled with their loot and did not tell anyone about the mishap. During his rescue mission, police were there on time to save him from an angry mob before whisking him away.Zunga is said to be on important medication after having come from South Africa on a stretcher, family members said.

Doctors in Mexico are finally set to operate on the World's heaviest man who has been confined to his bed for six years. Juan Pedro Franco, who once weighed more than half a ton at 595 kilos will undergo the gastric bypass surgery on the  9th of May, 2017 . 'He has lost nearly 30 per cent of his initial weight, so he is ready to undergo the bariatric surgery,' Dr. Jose Antonio Castaneda Cruz said. The Federal government has summoned the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Nagabashana Reddy, over the recent attacks on Nigerian students studying in the countrty. Recall that some Nigerian students on Monday sustained severe injuries after a group of locals attacked them in Pari Chowk, Noida. The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye who called for the meeting, expressed displeasure over the recent attacks. "This is not the first time this would happened; Nigerians have suffered similar attack in the past; so, what we will like to see on this occasion is that the perpetrator should be arrested. And we want to see diligent prosecution so that it would serve as a deterrent to those who think they can take laws into their hands and harass students who are going about their studies"he said The Indian High Commissioner apologised for the attacks and said that the Indian government have taken concrete steps to address the incident

The Vice Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Tunga-Minna, Niger State, Malam Mohammed Kuyizhi, has appeared before the state’s Child Rights Protection Agency, over the pregnancy of a 16-year-old student. Kuyizhi is accused of impregnating the girl, who is a junior student in the school. Hajia Mariam Kolo, the Director-General of the agency, who presided over the case on Wednesday in Minna, said that the matter was reported to the agency by a teacher, after the girl’s guardian informed the school that her ward was pregnant for the teacher. Kolo said that the agency, after receiving the report, sent an invitation letter to the accused to come and defend himself. She said that the case would be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. “Already, the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical examination; we shall make sure she gets justice,” she said. Kolo quoted the victim as telling the agency that the accused was a very close

 The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) wants the Federal Government to pay the outstanding arrears of its members not later than July 2017.   The National President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this during a news conference at the University of Abuja yesterday where he said the Federal Government is owing academics in federal universities unpaid allowances of not less than N128 billion. “In view of this, the union rose from its NEC meeting at the Bayero University Kano observing that the particular issue of EAA cannot be meaningfully addressed unless within an agreed framework. Hence the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU resolved that all outstanding arrears of EAA should be paid not later than July 2017.   “The decision of ASUU-NEC on the issue has since been communicated to the Minister of Education, Senate President and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund,’’ he said.

The EFCC has reportedly indicted the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and some of his aides in the alleged laundering of up to N3.5 billion from the Paris Club Loan Refund. According to Channels TV, a source at the antigraft agency says investigation by some of its officials have revealed that some persons with close links to Saraki were used to launder N3.5 billion from the paris club refund. The EFCC investigation was presented to President Buhari in a reported delieverd on March 10th, 5 days before the senate rejected acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu. However in a swift reaction, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Saraki, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in a statement released yesterday, denied the cliams. Yesterday,many customers after an eatery operator in Ogoja, Cross River State, allegedly put poison in the food he sold them. The eatery operator, it was learnt, last night, confessed to the crime. The suspect, Paul Armond, who has been arrested by the police, was said to be undergoing interrogation. Dr. Patrick Ubi, Medical Superintendent, General Hospital, Ogoja, where the victims were rushed to, said they ate from the same source, adding that it was regular for them to do so everyday between 9am and 10 am. “After two to three hours, those who ate the food started complaining of abdominal pain; some were vomiting while others were foaming in the mouth”, Ubi said. The suspect, according to a source, poisoned the customers as a way of getting back at them for an undisclosed reason.
